Motorcycle Season

Why don't we protect EVERYONE who is vulnerable on the road?

Jeff's Law (SB 363), passed in 2007, made it easier to convict reckless drivers when they kill roadway workers and people in school zones.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, 11 roadway construction workers were killed between 2003-2007.  That accounts for about 9% of the total deaths in work zones.

Motorcyclists account for 18% of fatalities in work zones.  In 2007, there were 2 roadway construction worker deaths in Illinois.  There were 18 pedalcyclist deaths, 157 motorcyclists & 172 pedestrian deaths.

Kill A Worker, Go To Jail   This is a simple IF:THEN argument.  If we can protect construction workers with the threat of stiff punishments, then we can protect loved ones on motorcycles, bicycles & in running groups using similar strategies.

Now that May is "officially" Motorcycle Awareness Month, we must demand more be done to MAKE people know. A flip-down "Motorcycle Season" sign would help the ones that struggle to actually see & hear them as the weather gets warmer.
